Hey Gang:

Looks like it's time for me to get new headers. I also need to replace the OEM tube that goes from the bottom of the ERG valve to the manifold. It is cracked (hairline), but enough to get emissions into the cabin. Anyway, I have the 5.0 V8, but don't know which ones to get at www.summitracing.com. I did find these >> HOK-6901HKR, but I'm not sure. Do you all know what I need here?? I will go for the cheapy painted ones unless you can convince otherwise!!!

Thanks for reading.

Upon further research (sorry for asking the same question that probably has already been answered here a thousand times)..but I guess I am stuck with the Ford Motorsport headers? Was it too much trouble to make 3rd party headers for the X 5.0? I bet if I find them they are stupid expensive.

Hmmmm.....

Great opportunity to install Torquemaster Headers. Truly a step beyond the Ford Motorsport product. Do a search here and contact Bob- he is very helpful and knowledgeable with the product which you wont regret- if you make the purchase.

Well, I went with the FMS headers because of the price alone - I just can't come up with the money for the TM's.

Question:

Do I need to repgrogram the chip? I'm not talking about just pulling the negative terminal for an hour - but acutally purchasing a reprogramming device.

This site ROCKS!

No, you shouldn't need to get a chip just for the headers. The computer will work just fine with them and you'll still notice a little boost in power. Now if you want more performance, then I might suggest a chip anyway, they give additional performace even with all stock parts and are probably the best HP bang for the buck with our trucks.

You only need to disconnect the - battery cable for a few seconds to clear the computers memory, but you mine as well just unhook it when you begin the install and hook it back up when you are done.

Thanks for the input gang. Regarding the chip, how much is it, where do you get it, and does it require you to steer clear of the 87 octane fuel? Last, will it increase the average miles per gallon under normal driving conditions??

Thanks for the help.

All:

I read some posts where some members said that the FMS headers were no better than stock. That is just rediculous. They are a huge improvement. The ports are at least a 1/4" bigger than stock, and have way better flow. They aren't as good as the TM's, but man what a difference for the price!
