 Need a little help in the transmission department. The explorer needs a new transmission but I'm confused to where to buy it from and if I can get a stronger one? Please will someone explain to my what transmission I have in my explorer and if I have any options to buy a stronger one. I will be trailer a boat this summer. I have a 1992 4x4, Sport thnk you

You have an A4LD. You are stuck with it. There were a few minor updates, but nothing major. You can get a torque converter with brazed fins, but that's about it for upgrades. There isn't another stronger auto, unless you want to lose overdrive or spend $$$ swapping in a Cheby 700r4. I'd consider replacing the flexlpate while you are in there. They are prone to cracking out at the welds. I'd have the trans you have now rebuilt.

I Had Mine Rebuilt By A Guy That Modifies Them To Make Them Stronger. He Puts Kevlar Bands & Clutches And Stuff Like That. I Have Not Had Any Problems With My Trans And I Off Road My Explorer. I Beat The Sh^t Out Of Mine. Let Me Know If You Are Interested In Getting A Hold Of This Guy.

How many miles do you have on the trans since the rebuild? How much more was it over a normal rebuild?
