Well no matter how much P/S fluid i have it makes the sound as if its low. I have that whining noise at ideal and worse when i turn the wheel. i took some a lil to much and it was low and when i got to 65 or so MPH the car shook a lot when i put that right amount in it did but very lil. Is there like a Power Steering Filter that i can check. I think i might need a new P/S pump but what yall think.

Could it be that the belt is to tight?

Have you bled the system? Which basically means topping off the reservoir with fluid, using a jack to get both front wheels up in the air, starting the vehicle but leaving it in Park, and then turning the steering wheel all the way to full lock on both sides a few times.

i will try that today i did it with it on the ground but not on jack stands.

The manual goes as far as mentioning a suction pump in a cork over the PS neck when you are turning the wheel up and back. Eventually the bubbles will work out though.

I just tryed what you said turn ot from lock to lock a few time and nothing happened. I try it again with with then engine off when i did it last time P/S fluid shot out of the lil hole in the top of the P/S cap. I know it wasn't over then fill line it was about 1/2 on the stick. It seems to me as if the pump isn't pumping or its not flowing 100%. what do i need to do now?

Most Ford power steering pumps have a whine.. I've never found one that didn't have a little whine to it. You could try swapping out a pump.

You're actually not supposed to go to full lock with the engine off (unless its an emergency) because basically the pump is not rotating and therefore there will be a surplus of fluid in the reservoir because none of the fluid is getting sucked back in (its just getting pushed out with every turn). Furthermore, the pump's internal vanes does not allow fluid to gravity feed into the rack and pinion (well maybe, but not at a very fast rate -- basically just seeping through any space between the vanes and the walls of the pump). This results in what you just described and when you turn the engine back on, it will suck air back in so you'll have to re-bleed again. Nothing is supposed to happen when you go through the bleeding process unless you're watching the reservoir -- at which point you might see some bubbles dribble up. But besides those bubbles, nothing earth-shattering should happen :).

That's how you can always tell a Ford... That power steering whine is very distinctive and I have had it on every Ford vehicle I have owned (Escort, T-bird, Mustang, Explorer and my PSD).

great i messed up again lol ill jack it up tomorrow and do it again. i know ford whine a lil bit but this seem a lil bit to much. like i said as if it was about empty.
