Hello,
I'm new here and this is my first post. I know I could probably use search, but my experience is there might be a thousand threads that match or none at all, and still not find the answer. So, I'm hoping that the knowledgeable people can answer my question.

I have a '03 Explorer Limited with the 4.6 V8.
I changed the IAC valve and now when I start it, the idle jumps to 2300 rpm's for a few seconds, then drops to about 850. It never jumped that high before, is this normal? If not, what might be the cause?

I appreciate any help you can provide.
Thank you very much!

Jim

It may require what is called an "Idle relearn" however I think that only applies to the 2004 and 2005 model...

For you, I would suggest removing the negative battery terminal and reconnecting it.

I read on here that someone had the exact issue and returned the part to Autozone and purchased elsewhere. After that, the high idle problem went away.
So, since I bought at Autozone, I returned the part and bought one at O'Reilly's and it doesn't do it anymore. However, I think it might still have the original problem of jerking and wanting to die at a stop. I only slightly noticed it once and other than that, it ran great.

If it continues to jerk at stops, I'll replace the TPS next.
