HELP! poor suspension problems

i have a 1997 ford explorer XLT that has about 65,000 miles on it....and the suspension is terrible....mostly dealing with the side to side motion....for example...when i hit a speed bump straigt on the car does fine...but if you hit it at an anlge you get thrown side to side several times (3-5) before it settles down.

is this something that other explorer owners have experienced? is it due to poor shocks? old shocks? will new shocks help? and if so what does everyone recommend...for a reasonable price?

i think it is pretty common i guess stiffer shocks would help on the swaying but it would be a ruffer ride. Xs are top heavy so expect some sway. but isnt it kind of fun sorta like a roller coaster.

Sounds like you shocks are shot. Explorers aren't really top heavy, and should not sway very much.

The suspension is a weak point of an Explorer. The stock shocks are junk to start with and get worse as time goes on. We carry the Edelbrock IAS shocks. They have inertia valve technology that improves the ride and handling. They are firmer than stock but not as stiff as Bilstiens or Tokicos. They also have a lifetime warranty as long as you own the vehicle.

The other way to cure to sway (body roll) is to install our X-Spec Sway Bars. These beefier bars and performance shocks will give you ride and handling that you would not think was possible with an Explorer.
