Help! serpentine belt wearing on the edge

Is this normal for it to wear out like that or is something causing it to rip cause if i changed the belt would the same thing hapen??
i riped some of the belt off on the side (not viewable in pic) cause i noticed it was hanging and i dident want it to get tangeled with something

you need to replace it. When you do inspect all the pulleys and make sure it wonthit anything when rotating. You need to change it soon!

With the wear being to one side like that I would also check the path of the belt to make sure the pullys are clean and aligned. Also see if there may be something else sticking out and rubbing that side of the belt.

As ExplorerDMB said change it soon!

IIRC, the only two things that ride against the back of the belt are the idler pulley and the water pump pulley. It's quite possible that one (or both) of them are worn and not riding in the proper place, or the accessory immediately before them has shifted and is causing it to lead onto the pulley at an angle. Check it out... the problem pulley should be pretty obvious.
