Hello,
I have a ford explorer 2020 and the check engine light came on. I took it to the dealer and they told me it’s due to a “small Evap leak”. The issue is, they quoted me $1,400 to fix it, which I think its insane, since the vehicle is still kind of new, I’ve had it since day 1. Also, I looked online and the filler neck tube part is only $145, or the purge valve is about $50 (which I would assume could be the parts that need to be replaced.) Any ideas on what I can do? Is $1,400 reasonable? What parts would need replacing?

Do you have an ESP from Ford? About a year ago my 3 year/36K miles warranty was expiring and I extended it for 4 more years up to 85K miles. It cost $1500, It's been almost a year and haven't had to use it but it's still peace of mind because most repairs will only cost $100 deductible.

I do have an ESP, but I have the smaller one, the PowerTrain Care, and according to the ford service guy, it’s not covered under that ESP.

Welcome to the Forum.
Like hbalek, I also always take out an ESP if I intend to keep the vehicle beyond the factory warranty period. I go with the PremiumCare Warranty since the powertrain warranty is 5 years. Since you are not under warranty for this issue, you can always go to any independent shop to get an estimate and have them do the work. I'd insist though that OEM parts be used.

Get in there on the filler flap and clean it really good. Push it open and put a tiny amount of grease on the outer mating surface.

I have the problem on my 2020 explorer platinum and my quote was $550 but it seems not too complicated to replace

I see you were last active in December. If you are still following your thread, did you ever get this resolved?
