Just ordered 2 speakers sets this past Monday. One set of Audiobahn AS68Q 6x8"/5x7" for my rear doors and one set of Audiobahn AS57PQ 5x7"/6x8" for my front doors. Today I got my AS68Q's for the rear doors (40-20kHz).

I began installing them by removing my old stock speakers and wiring them up. I used a meter to test and make sure I had them wired correctly. When I went to put them into the door and bolt them in, I noticed that the back end of them would press against the inside of my door and they were just slightly too big for the enclosure by less than 1/8th of an inch. To fill in the small gap I spent 2 hours cutting out rubber/foam seals to fill the gap. Then I made them about 2x as thick as the space that was open so that when compressed it would make the enclosure air-tight.

Well I go to fire them up and start at low volume and they work fine and sound great. I then turn them up a bit to see how they would compare to my stock speakers (thinking that my new 40-20kHz 100watt RMS speakers would annihilate my old stock premium 85watt speakers). Boy was I wrong. I put my fade on to the front, and you all know how the stock X speakers can put out some bass and do it pretty clearly, they did fine with just a tad bit of fuz on heavy bass. I turned my fade to the rear and as soon as I started to "pump" up the music they would start making this crappy "buzzing" sound. It almost sounded like a speaker that is blown or like a high frequency rattle, but they aren't blown and they were pretty secure when I put them in with that rubber seal.

The only thing I can think of is that; 1-somehow my door is rattling from something I didn't tighten all the way, 2-The back of my speaker is vibrating up against the inside of my door, or 3-I need to break them in. The only thing that makes me unsure of the problem is that they sound GREAT with the volume on the low side but as soon as I go to crank them up to "jam" to test them out, they lose that quality sound and start that rattling whir, almost void of the power they should have.

Has anyone experienced problems like this before or know what it may be? It's a 95' 4-door 2wd XLT with a 180watt HU CD/MP3/Radio. Thanks.

I'm just hoping I don't have the same problem with my front speakers when they come in and that this is just something small, I really dont wanna have to send them back.

hey, sorry i cant help but just wanted to say hey! im also from marietta GA with a 95 xlt :D

Your probably underpowering them. Also they are not going to have as much bass as your stock ones. Your stock ones are made of paper which allows for a more bass responce. The new ones are made rubber to allow for better sound clarity.

maybe try turning the bass down on the HU, they would sound alright at a low vol. with the bas up, but then when the volume gets louder, they try to "bump" louder, and they arent really made to be insanely "bassy" lol.

I gave them a tad more back-space and re-did the seal. Still having problems but it should help. Gonna order an AMP so I can filter out the low stuff and give them the power they deserve! :)

I noticed they only rattle on the heavy heavy heavy bass that you normally can't hear unless you have subs, it's like they are trying to play down to 20Hz even though they can only hit 40Hz...anyhow, the amp should fix it and let me blare them.
