So I noticed coolant leaking out from the top hose going into the tstat.

Oreilleys sold me a replacement for 6 bucks...the only one they had then.

They stated 198 is OEM recommendation.

It takes a long time to get the temp gauge toward the middle. So Im wondering if its junky or the wrong temp thermostat.

I see here 195 is often specified. Then other articles give a range of temps for OEM.

I cannot find the info online.

Is there a difference between a 95 v8 and 95 v6 for tstats ?

Since it spewed coolant on the temp sender im gonna take the two components out and clean them. Cant remember the name of the other sensor on the housing. They are new as of last year. But the one has patina on it. Green funky stuff.

thanks for looking people.

195-198 not much difference either way. There really is no "right" answer to this question.

Edit:
RockAuto catalog shows t-stats of 180, 190 and 198 degrees available. Any of these should work okay. Amazon shows 180, 190, 195 and 198 available. I'd go with a 190 or 195. What does your owner's manual recommend? As long as the t-stat is functioning properly it doesn't make much difference. The center of your temp gauge does not indicate a specific coolant temp. The needle will be in the approx center of the gauge with a coolant temp of anywhere between 167-200 degrees.

What do you consider a "long time"? Are you getting good heat w/in a few miles?

yes good heat within 10 minutes of running. I suppose im being nit picky. It just takes a lot longer to warm up. Ill check my coolant mix with my hygro. too. Thanks for the info.

There was no v8 in 1995,
The water neck itself could have a leak? The tube and flange are 2 pieces , and it may leak at the joint.
good to know thanks !

The OHV was designed to run optimally at 195°F. Use that T-stat and you will be fine.

I run a 190 Motorcraft thermostat on my 2000 ohv but I think it’s stuck open since it rarely exceeds 180. It’s isually around 170, but I still get great gas mileage. I’m still going to replace it since I think the 190 range is where it should be.
