:(I was just told this about towing;

2001 were found to be too narrow to be stable in maneuvers. I believe (not sure) that 2003 is when Explorers got widened, but you should check with a dealer to be sure, or go measure yours and a newer model. If yours is the narrower model, I would be hesitant to tow with it, I personally would not. A friend recently discovered that U-haul will not rent to owners of the narrower Explorers.
this was sent to me on a RV site of the trailer I was thinking of getting....

what's is this all about?

help

I have never heard that but I know u haul wouldn't rent to us because of liability issues when the sport trac came out and there were having blow outs with the Firestone tires that were installed at the factory

The whole issue with U-Haul not renting any trailers to "Explorer" owners is because of Firestone tires having the tread seperate from the tire on early model Explorer's. This had nothing to do with the safety of towing with any model Explorer but because Ford used Firestone tires as a factory mounted tire the Explorer was dragged into the whole B.S. lawsuit. This happened way before the Sport Trac was even designed. I have towed many different types of trailers with different types of loads with zero issues. It all comes down to the driver, point blank.

Pay attention to load ratings, axle weights, vehicle condition of both towing vehicle and trailer as well as tire pressure especailly on both vehicles.

I've towed all the way to the limit of this truck and she held out strong. It's not always about the truck, you have to be smart about how and what you're towing. I have not felt unstable while towing. Granted thats where having a 1 ton truck comes in handy.
