Auto Tranny Just To Let You Know

Hard to tell from your description. There should be 2 steel lines running to the drivers side of your radiator to cool the tranny fluid. Hot fluid from the tranny flows into the upper connection on the radiator. Cooled fluid leaves through the lower connection on the radiator and either goes directly back to the tranny or into an aux. tranny cooler (if you have one installed). So is one of the lines disconnected from the radiator or did it just spring a leak? If it's only disconnected try to reconnect it. If it's damaged and leaking you'll need to replace it.

well when you are laying under it i'm assuming it is the return line from the trans cooler because i have the towing package... it wasnt leaking at all when i ran it...but on the way back from the gas station (after puttin 80 bucks in it) it starting leaking... out of the steel line... it doesnt look like it is supposted to go anywhere to tell you the truth... because there is no other end... im assuming that there was a rubber hose that flew off of it...

Still hard to tell. There are 2 steel lines that connect to the side of the tranny that carry tranny fluid to and from the the tranny cooler. There is also a third (vent) metal line that I believe connects to the top of the tranny and doesn't connect to anything... it just a vent. Do you think your fluid is coming from the vent or is one of the cooler lines. Could you have overfilled the tranny fluid making it spew out the vent tube?

i know i didnt overfill it... i did exact specs when filling it...and also it wont move now...which means it has no fluid...when running it poured out....idk what do you suggest i do to check because it is about 8 miles away right now and im going to bypass the cooler for now with a high pressure rubber hose and refill the tranny...just to get it home where i can look more detailed

He is talking about thre tranny breather line that comes down the driveres side of the trans and dumps onto the ground, not one of this cooler lines.

If the trans is puking fluid out the breather line you have either overfilled the trans, the fluid is foaming, or your trans is overheating big time. Either way you have a problem with your transmission, unless it was overfilled.

If it was overfilled you need to get the excess fluid out of it.

I suspect the worst

If he filled it to some "spec" from somewhere, he probably put around 10-12 quarts in it. If he just dropped the pan, he lost maybe 4 or 5. If those are true its WAY over full.

Just a thought. ;)

Thanks 410... I meant 'breather tube' and not 'vent' :banghead:

well now that i think about it...it is probly over full.... i put 8 in it after dropping the pan...however im still not gettin why it wont move...thanks you guys

Check the fluid level, remove whats extra, see what it does. Report back. :)

No wonder it was spewing out the breather tube... with a pan drop you only lose 4 qts. So I gotta ask... how is it you added 8qts? Did you check the tranny dipstick with the truck warmed up and runnin in park?

Let's not forget how much a torque converter holds....

hahaha, it's ok man... happens to the best of us!

Yea so umm i got it home... had to put a quart in at every stop sign (2 miles)...it's dumping like a mother ####er... so i dont think it'
s the breather line

Uh oh....sounds like you blew a seal somewhere. Its possible that too much fluid blew something.

You wouldn't happen to have a digi cam would you? That would let us "see" which lines you are having a problem with. I really can't begin to guess where the problem is without something......Hmmm...maybe one of the other guys has an idea.

I dont believe i blew a seal because it is all comeing out of the end on one steel line... ill see if i can get some pics but ill probly have to email them since im not and "elite" member...

The bad part is... we ran out of tranny fluid about 85% of the way to my house... and we ended up pulling it with an '89 Honda Accord... crzy stuff...
