help tranny pan drop

droppped the tranny pan on my 00 mounty with 5.0 4r70w transmission. After the fan fropped there was a little pale yellow dumbbell looking piece in the pan. it has an o-ring at the bottom of it. any one no what this is and were does it go? plese help A.S.A.P. this is only means of transportation. i have done this on a 97 4r70w and never seen this before

That plastic piece is in the pan from the factory, it is used to block the hole for the dipstick, then is pressed through when the dipstick is installed.
So the first time a factory pan is dropped this piece will be in there.
Just remove it and ignore it, you are fine.
 






thanks 410. you just saved me a big headache. i was in a panic at that point. my 97 v8 never had that in there, and i changed that 3 or 4 times. i just bought this rig. don't know much about her yet.

Good question but I don't know. I hope no other Ford or any car manufacturer would have a plug fall off in the transmission pan during assembly. That's crazy!
I haven't put it back together yet but since it's been in there all this time, I might leave it in there for good luck. :D
 






It also appears in other transmissions from FORD from time to time.
