Hello
NY 93 EX wont shift when first shift when its cold
i can go out to the truck, start it up and it wont idle until its warmed up, but if i jump in and put it in drive it eill stall unless i give it a shot of gas then it will stay running and i can drive away. i pull out in to the road and start to accellerate and it wont shift at all just red line in 1st. i can shift manully in to the other gears but it will stay in 1 st and continue to red line . it will do this for about about a mile or so down the road then al of a suden it wil start to shift and run normally i asume its warming up. now i just did a tranny flush a nd replaced it with amsoil and added some lucus. to it
amd still the problem continues. i have read alot of thread and cant find one to help
is my tranny on its wa out or is it somthingstupid that i can change or do to solve this issue
im open to any and all suggestions,
thanks chris :exp:

not 100% on your tranny but maybe the modulator is out of whack, used to be there was a vacuum line to some trannies that told the tranny what load the engine was under, combined with a "tv" cable for throttle position so to speak, and the tranny shifted accordingly. im not sure you have a setup like that, but it something to check on. a vacuum leak could cause both you lack of a cold idle, and the improper shifting.
again, i dont drive a first gen explorer, so im just tossing ideas out there.

thanks for your replys like i stated the tranny just got a flush like last weekend i use amsoil synthetic tranny fluid with a full bottle of lucus tranny treatment. new filter and gasket aswell i cleaned out the grung that was on the bottom of the pan. the fluid level is a little hight ..
now is this vacume line reachable that is on the tranny
im going to resceach this.
looking forward to more ideas

If it was the vacuum line, then wouldn't it be screwy all the time and not when it's only cold?
Did you try letting the truck warm up for a few minutes before driving it?
When you say it's "cold" do you mean you just started the truck, or do you mean this only happens whet the outside temp is cold?

yournamehere makes a good point about the vacume line. Wouldnt it be all the time? my idle is screwwy all the time but the tranny isnt. only when its cold or just started. if i let the truck warm up it will still do it. i find that if im easy on the gas its noy as bad but if i am hard on the gass its doesnt shift at all on till the rpms start to drop. sometimes i got to come to a complet stop and try it again. ive also notice that somtime it doesnt seam like it shift into 2 gear almost like it jumps from 1 - 3 . where is this vacume line that could be the calpret located?
