Ok, I have no clue to how this happened or why. The only thing I was doing under the hood was wiring up my new PIAA's to the battery. I start the truck and I hear a noise. Its a hose unplugged on the main vacuum (where there are like 7 hoses plugged in). The hose that is missing is pointing directly at the EGR valve. I've searched everywhere with a flashlight for the "missing hose" even got under the truck. Nothing. This is driving my crazy! First how does a vacuum line get unplugged? Second where the hell did it go? I got out the Chiltons and started to troubleshoot but still haven't determined where this dam line goes to and/or comes from. This is driving my crazy! Any thoughts, theories, suggestions, input, advice would be great! Thanks people!

Oh man I dont have EGR so I cant go look, but I believe if it is in fact your EGR vacuum line you will be able to locate the other end where it should be fairly easily, just unbolt the EGR bracket and look.

If it is not the EGR vacuum line then it either goes to:

vacuum canister (pass side)
Auto Tranny (down back of bellhousing)
brake booster (yikes)
Cruise control vacuum canister
Fuel Press reg

I think thats it!
The other vacuum line coming from the TB goes to the canister purge solenoid then directly to the charcoal canister........

Good luck!

I say find the other end and replace the hose with a rubber one. The stock plastic hoses SUCK, over time they get really brittle.........and break.

410Fortune, so how many cases of beer do I owe you? Your always there to help with good ideas and input. It's really pissing my off becuase it can't be that hard to find the other end but I've spent over 3 hours looking high and low???

PROCESS OF ELIMINATION

Check for the other ones first, then it will narrow it down.
Which ones ARE there?

Sometimes there are extra ports. They will just put a cap on the extra one. Maybe your cap just fell off. Try plugging it and see if it goes back to normal!

Later,

Andy

Thanks Andy. I was thinking the same thing. I wish I knew someone with a 91'-94' so I could just pop the hood. Chiltons just shows a block diagram. I'm gonna trace every line tonite and see. I just doesnt make sense why a vacuum line or plug would come off??

HAHAHA actually it does. thy get old and dry up, they lose their grip.

How many ports are on your tree total? (7 I think)
How many lines are run to it?

Then answer the following and we can solve your problem right now:

does the EGR require a vacuum line?
Do you have a 5 speed or an auto?
Cruise control?

Everything else stock?

I bet you lost a port plug like he said........ :)

I'll go check mine right now!!

If this is where you are talking about I have 7 ports and 4 are hooked up to something and 3 are just capped off. Sorry about the bad pic but I need to wash it under there :( Mine is also different than blaine's so it might be closer to what a 94 might look like (I'm a 93)

Stoked! Thanks for the Pics guys!!!!! But the one I'm misssing, one of you have it plugged and the other has it connected. In the first pic its the plug pointing and the connector. I didn't get to check anything last night. I had to finish the pond install. Hopefully tonite and again thanks for the pics.

The pic Hvac posted would be closer to your X since the '91 doesn't have a EGR valve. If all else fails, cap off the open port and we'll look at it when you get to Moab.

Thanks people for the help and input. I spent last night trouble shooting. I went ahead and hooked up a hose and then tie wrapped it to act like a cap. Everything seemed to be hooked up so upon looking from the ground up, what do I find on the ground. A cap the same size as the port. Again thanks guys and mrboyle, I liked your idea of just get the hell to Moab and then we can fix it. I think I got it so just a few more things like new centerlink, idler arm bushings, lower ball joint and connect the ebrake to the new disc brakes.

What in the world are idler arm bushings on your truck???

Yes if I'm not mistaken. The pittman are attaches to the centerlink, and the centerlink is attached to an idler arm. At least that is my understanding.

I've been following this post.

I have the exact same problem on my 92. It happend when some sort of back firing occurred. It blew off all the hoses and I've been racking my brain for the past month trying to figure it the last one out.

Fortuantely, I have another car I use for the summer, but now that snow will be comming, I plan on switching. At least I'll be able to fix it this weekend

I was actually comtemplating chasing down a stranger with the same car and asking to look.

OH okay so you are replacing the tie rod ends :)
Or just the grease seals?

hahaha....

When in doubt, cap it off........
also its not a bad idea to replace those caps if they are brittle/old/loose......

Glad to see you got it all back together I'll see you in Moab :)

410Fortune: No I'm replacing the idler arm bushings.

hvac man: Yes if everything gets finished this week we are going to take a run up to the mountains and try running Niagara trail. Make sure everything works properly before driving all the way to Moab.
