Have a question for any '93 experts out there. My wife recently took in her 1993 X becuase it was blowing off the vacuum lines upon start up and rough idle. It turns out that the vacuum modulator valve was replaced.

Problem is, the X just turned 200,000 miles and the transmission never slipped at all prior to them changing out this valve.

Is there something that the shop might have done, or not done to cause this to happen? Up until this service, we never had any issues with the transmission.

Any suggestions??

What else did they do, fluid and filter change? Believe it or not, just saying slipping is meaningless in transmissions. Is it over reving but still solidly in gear. In what gears does it do it and does it change when it warms up? The devil is in the details.

And.. there is a thought in some circles that a late life replacement of the vacuum modulator on these trannies is an accident or at least some misfortune looking for a place to happen. I never believed that, but you are scaring me.

The pin and modulator valve figure prominently in my mind here. Good news is that you can buy an aftermarket kit that replaces the aluminum valve with a steel one. ANd you can DIY this replacement. Will it solve your problem? I dunno. Costs about $30.

OK .... it was the pin .... After I did some homework I told the shop about the potential of the pin being the issue. As it turns out, the pin HAD fallen out. They replaced it with a new one and the X is running perfectly again. 200,000 miles and still going strong !!!!
Just saved myself a ton of money.

Thanks to those that responded!!
