Hey guys, new to the forum. I have a 02 XLT. My wipers work but no washer fluid will come out. I replaced the pump motor and still nothing. Is there a fuse or relay that I can check? Also the fluid dosent work for the back either.

Thanks for any help!!

Shane

Shane, welcome to the forum. :salute:

There are fuses/relays for the washer pumps. I will post up the info when I get home tonight!

Thanks Rondo. I was looking at one of ur other threads and u posted ur manual and in what spots the relay/fuse was. I looked at my manual and it wasn't the same. My manual dosent even list a relay or fuse for the washer pump. Thanks for helping out!

Since your manual doesn't list a fuse for the pumps, I would check every fuse in the passenger compartment and the distribution box under the hood. Let me know if you have any other questions.

ill do that or just have the stealership take a look at it. If both of our vehicles are the same why would we have different manuals?

I don't know about your generation but in my 96 the washer fluid doesn't work 70% of the time either but that is because the button inside has a short in it. If I twist on the turn signal lever as I'm pushing in the wiper fluid it sometimes works.

It's not that uncommon for them to make changes in production during the model year. My Ex is an "early '02". There may be engineering enhancements, final assembly plants may receive the same part but from a different manufacturer, etc.

Great point by quarterMillion. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

brakery, let me know if you are up to changing the multifunction switch. That's the directional lever, wiper control, washer control. I have an extra one. I replaced mine with a new one when I was troubleshooting a problem with my wipers. Turned out to be a bad motor. I'm willing to send it to you for the cost of shipping. I have a write-up on changing it here: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=279556.

Check it out and if you want to change it yourself just PM me and it's yours!

Can you un-hook the hose and push water through the hose for the front and rear? If you can hear the pump working, then you have a blocked hose. just my 2 cents.

The pumps will also burn out of you try to run them with the tank empty. I've replaced many of them on my cars and my friend's cars because when you run low you want to keep pumping to get it to dribble on the windshield. The motor is actually cheap and easy to replace. You can see is if you look up behind the bumper on the passenger side.

jaydez, the OP already changed the pump.

brakery, bump for an update. :dunno:

Sorry it took so long to reply, because of the snow and cold i wasnt able to do it until this morning. Just want to thank BigRondo for the part and for that awesome instructional. But unfortunately it did not solve the problem. So I guess I will just carry a spray bottle with washer fluid around for now. I have no idea what it could be. Thanks again BigRondo!!

Are you getting power to the pump when you push the botton? If you are then you need to replace the lines. You probably have one blocked some where. I had ice in mine a few weeks ago.

brakery, sorry the MFS didn't fix your problem. I agree with jaydez:

Shane, here is some info from my owner's manual. If you don't have an owner's manual, Dead Link Removed.

I apologize for the size of the pics but I wanted you to be able to see them.

There is a fuse related to the washers in the fuse panel located in the passenger compartment. #8 is a 30A Fuse for the front & rear washer relays and the front wiper control.

There are 2 relays related to the washers located on the reverse side of the fuse panel. They're a PITA to get to. The manual says to remove the fuse panel to gain access but some have been able to access the relays with removing the fuse panel. #4 is the relay for the front washer pump. #6 is the relay for the rear washer pump:

I am having the same problem. Wondering if BigRondo can give me some tips!

I have a 98 Explorer Sport
Both Front and Rear Relays beneath the air filter have been replaced.
New pump was installed.
Fuses in driver side fuse panel are intact.
All functions of MFS seem to work fine.
There is no noise when pressing either front or back switch to pump fluid, so power is definitely not getting there.
Don't have the knowledge of how to test with a circuit tester.
What am I missing?
