My 2002 2WD Explorer has 175,000 un-interrupted miles on it (bought new in 3/02) and the rear washer fluid does not work. When I try to send some fluid from the resevoir to the rear, I can hear the pump, but no fluid. Any ideas or forum links that will help me? Thanks in advance........:us:

Hi there... It's likely that the sending tube is clogged or dried up. How often do you use it? And is the reservoir in good conditions? Thanks!

It hasn't worked for a "couple of years". The resevoir appears to be on good shape. I suppose the tube would be difficult to trace. :us:

Let me go check real quick, I'll be right back...

How's the condition of the spout?

Is this part okay? I took out the screws to look there, but it's still dark out... Is that nozzle okay on your vehicle? It should be clear in those little areas... I would suspect the nozzle is the problem...

I appreciate your dilligence - I'll have to check later, definately. The wife has "plans" for us. :us:

There is no separate tank in the back in the 3rd Gens.

Mine stopped working when an animal climbed under my hood and chewed through the tube.
Pop the hood, have someone hit the switch and watch for a leak.

Huh. Whoops, my bad. Assumed there was since all the rest have them. Don't quite understand why they like to change designs like that.

Find the line under the hood where it leaves the pump. Disconnect it and disconnect the line where it goes into the nozzle in the tailgate. Run the pump to see if you get fluid out of the pump. If so, then blow compressed air backwards through it from the tailgate end of the line. If you have any blockage, that may push it out. If air flows freely and you have pump action (DON'T go there :D) then check the nozzle for obstructions.

There's only one tank on the newer trucks, and it's up front. The rear washer on mine had stopped working and I found the tube had seperated at a joint located right on top of the passenger side front wheel well. It was pretty easy to see and shove back together. Works fine now. Good luck.

Just got a 2003 Explorer for a work vehicle, and the rear washer does not work. It pumps just fine, however it puddles underneath the vehicle at the right side of the rear bumper. I can see it pouring out of the body of the vehicle and smell the fluid inside. Do I have to pull the interior panel off in the back of the car to get to the line?

It runs inside the cab bottom right side maybe some can be more specific.

Mr. Wolfzr2, the line has probably popped off just under the rear most passenger window. I wrote a description on here a while back how to fix it permanently. Basically, it took me less than 10 minutes (after I already paid the dealer $65 the first time - argh!). Pull off the top rear trim, pull out the right rear trim just enough to see the line (have some one run the pump a bit if you have trouble seeing it). You can put a little gorilla glue on the NIPPLE, not the tube and push it back on. Then wait a day and try (actually try it before you glue it to make sure it's not obstructed.) Subsequently if you try to use it when the fluid is frozen, it will pop off up front in the engine compartment - an easier fix.

I found the line disconnected from the fitting in the engine compartment, on top of the passenger side wheel well. I put it back on, and everything works fine now.
