I was driving around last night and I noticed this rhythmic thump coming from what seemed to be the driver side of my Ex, right under my feet. I didn't pay much attention to it, I just figured it was the roads and when I turned left onto another road, it stopped, so I didn't think about it any more.

Well! Today on my way home from work, it happened again, only this time it is very loud, and I actually had to adjust my steering at times because the truck would suddenly swerve. Now I know that is not right, so I pull over, take the wheel off, and yeah, my bearings are shot... It is hard to describe with all of the grease in there, but it looks like the outer casing of the bearings got bent up (no longer a perfect circle), and now the bearings are getting caught as they spin. The brake pad appears to be dragging on the rotor as well. Also, my brake pedal now has some more play in it than normal and I really have to mash down on it to get the Ex to slow down. So I limped the next 3 miles home going about 35 mph...

What exactly does it sound like I need done? New bearings obviously, perhaps spindles? I am not too familiar with the parts of the wheel. What could be the situation with the brakes? How difficult would it be to replace the bearings myself? Oh, and I have WARN manual hubs... Could they have caused a problem? I put them on about 6 months ago, and hadn't had any problems with them yet.

Sorry for the long post, but thanks for any help anyone can provide.

BUMP

Nobody has any input? I'd really rather fix this myself if at all possible.

Wheel bearing are cheap so I'd just replace those first & buy good ones, they aren't that much more. I doubt tha any damage was done to the spindle but, if it did it should be visible to the eye. I.E.- grooves worn, chunked, scratches. If it's just minor scratches you should be able to sand it down w/some emory cloth to get it smooth again, install the bearing & be fine. Just my $.02
