Help with an odd noise on an 05

Hello all,

I have a very strange issue with my 05 explorer. I swear I’m not crazy but I keep hearing a whoop sound coming from the truck. My wife hears it too so I’m pretty sure it’s not my imagination! It sounds a lot like when a cop flips their siren on and off to get your attention. (yeah I know I’m probably paranoid, but is it really paranoia when they are actually out to get you?) I have played around with the truck to try and emulate it. I can’t cause it to happen but I have figured out that it only happens when the air conditioning is on. The truck does have rear air. Does anybody know what is causing this? Anybody fixed it?

Your A/C clutch is chirping when it is cycling on and off (frequently)....mine started doing it about a year ago.

Have you had it fixed or are you just living with it? I have an extended warranty so $100 later I should be good. Just wondered what something like that goes for since eventually the warranty will run out! thanks!

Nope, A/C still blows cold, but I know that it's a sign that the clutch will likely give out in the near future. Not a real hard job actually

I would check your extended warranty terms, I am sure they don't cover "everything". A clutch is just that...they wear out, just as a transmission clutch, torque converter, drum brakes, anything that uses centrifugal force to apply friction to something else. I would imagine your A/C compressor is probably covered, but not sure about an A/C clutch. If it's a squeak, it isn't failing....if it's not engaging anymore, it is failing. Might be hard to get Ford to fix it just because of a squeak and not a complete fail.
