Good Day
My 1996 xlt shoc auto has a problem with it's control trac , when i reverse out of my driveway it select's 50/50 split 4wd and locks or wine's up both diff .
It's out of warranty now , i have taken it to two dealers and it has no code fault's up .
Ford Australia has said it might be the electric motor on the transfer box but a $600.00 Aussi dollar's i would like to try the sensor's that detect wheel speed first put where are they .
Is there one at the back of the transfer case under the tail shaft with three wires come out and going to the electric motor plug on transfer box .
I used to have flashing 4wd lights but and auto sparkie fitted an earth strap to the transfer box then to the body that seams to have fix that problem .
Any Help Please

I had the exact same problem, including the flashing dash lights, with the control trac driveline my 1997 Explorer. The dealer here in Austin, TX, replaced a sensor (about $100 U.S.) and the problem disappeared.

speed sensor

Hi Allan
Can you let me know the name and phone number of the dealer as the Australian dealer is useless .
Thanks
Chux

I checked the service receipt and the part they replaced was the forward transfer case speed sensor ($65.42 U.S.). The part number is listed as XL2Z-7F293-BA in case that helps. I should think your dealer could help you once he has that information but in case he can't my dealer is Truck City Ford, 15301 South IH35, Buda, TX 78610, 512-312-0800, and they have a web site at http://www.ljftruckcity.com.
I hope this helps.
