If this question has been answered before, please forgive me, but I picked up a new Alpine ixa-w404 head unit today, & I'm pretty good with the wiring, except for the brake switch & parking brake switch wires... The instructions don't explain why they need to be connected, so I'm wondering if anyone here knows why? I'm wondering if the deck will work if they're not hooked up at all?

I'm assuming the deck has video capability? If so, these are to make sure the car isn't moving while you are watching something. I would *assume* the parking brake switch gets a constant 12v as a signal, and the brake switch would be a 12v pulse. I'm sure someone knows how to bypass this.

it isnt the most legal solution, but you can just ground them. then the video will work while in motion. If you want it legal and proper, you run the parking brake wire to the wire that works the red brake light on the ebrake assembly. the brake switch wire would run to the stop lamp switch on the brake pedal.

Thanks for the help, guys. I just saw a video on youtube, where a guy ran the wires to toggle switches, because Alpine wnats you to pull the "e" brake, then step on the brake twice & then release the "e" brake, or something like that. Friggen rediculous! Apparently, you can't even set your clock without those wires hooked up!
