Yeah thats how you take the bulb out but the batt is in the way on one side and the intake box is in the way on the other side.
And there is like a 2 1/2 but 2 inch hole to stick your hand in.
There will be a black thing that you turn and it will unlock the bulb, then you can pull it out. Then you put the new bulbs in can turn the black thing to lock them back into place. The passenger side can be a little tricky because there is not a lot of room.
Just trying to WORK SMARTER NOT HARDER....
Cing how just about every one in here has had there truck longer then me I thought I would ask befor I removed them.

I think I just removed the battery to make it easier... in the F-150 they designed it so you could easily remove the headlight via the front of the truck, but not so on the explorers unfortunately.

my arms are skinny enough and your may be to, that if i face directly away from the front of the truck and reach down behind me in to that opening (under the plastic flap) i can change them fine. just make sure to wear gloves and to not touch the bulb to anything
Yeah I changed the bulbs on my 98 and it was a real pain. I just stuck my hand in there and was careful and took my time. Changing the bulbs on my '02 was soooo much easier
Tell me about it, I was about to cry of anger cause I didn't want to bust the bulb or scratch the bulb in the metal pieces or you know not even scrape it a little cause goodbye $$$, that's what I always say.:frustrate
I fnily got them changed. Has to take the batt. out on the drivers side and I had a buddy do the pass side. My hande must be just that much bigger were I couldnt do it.
Which bulbs did every one use to replace the stock ones with?
I used STREETGLOWS Xenon-White bulb it puts out a blue glow.
How do you like the bulbs? Are they the blue like a Mercedes color tint? How much? Just wondering because I picked a pair up of bulbs (diff brand) for another car I have but they were just like the stock and were supposed to be like a blue tint.
I like thim there not quit like the Mercedes but they are the bluest bulb I have seen yet.
Ill get a picture of what they look like at night and post them here.
