I have a '91 Explorer that I want to lift. I've been looking at Rancho 2.5" lift versus a James Duff 2.5" lift. The James Duff is $450 so it's not bad, while the Rancho ranges from $1039.99-$1240.00 at my local 4wd shops. I'm interested in what ANYONE has to say about either of the two companies and lifts. I also want to know what size tires I'm going to be able to run once completed. Right now, I'm running 30s and it's not big enough. Any information would be great. Thanks.

Both lifts are quite reputable. The Rancho 2.5" lift comes with extended radius arms (which I consider a must). Duff offers extended RAs for an additional cost. You may be able to stuff 32s under a 2.5" lift.

IMHO, go with a least 4" of lift and get it over with...

Well, if you go with a 2.5" you'll be able to run 31x10.5's on an 8" wheel. If you want to go with 32's and you're gonna' actually use it on the trail, then a 4" is a must. I'd definitely recommend longer radius arms, whether Rancho, Skyjacker, Duff or Superlift. They make the geometry of your front suspension much better. Less coil bind, more consistent geometry through travel and less radius arm bushing bind and wear make them well worth the extra cost of these kits. Alignment is also a bonus with longer arms as you can get more positive caster usually with the longer arms also, making the handling on road quite a bit better...Mark

You can run 32" with the Rancho 2.5" but will have to trim the flange on the radius arms a little bit and also the wheel wells.

Yes, I have gone wheeling with the 32" and did not have any rubbing problems after the trimming.

That's true. I have seen him.
Hey Khoa, long time no see. How's the Mrs? You a Dad yet?
If I ever get my damn truck back, I need to take it out and see how it works. Gotta take it easy first, because need to breakin the gears and stuff. Hopefully have it by next weekend.

Hi Ray -

Yes, I'm a dad now!!! My son came almost 4 weeks ago (9/6/2000). He sure goes through diapers like they are free and I didn't think someone so little could go so much and so often!

Once you're finished with all the mods on the truck, I bet it will be one awesome trail machine. Some serious money have been poured into it. BTW - what are you using to commute now that you've set up the Explorer to run 35" (or is it 33"). If you guys are planning on doing a trip to Hollister let me know, I might be able to sneak out for a day or so but I can't be too sure. I'm always on diaper duty!!!

Khoa.

Congratulations !

Hey Khoa! Congratulations!
Yea, I know it's amazing how much they can go. the mustard looking stuff really isn't that bad, but once they start eating solids, then whew boy does it start getting bad.
Well the truck should be ready here pretty soon. I'll send you an email when we get ready to go. It will be good to see you again.
