Hi All,

93 XLT (100K miles) wouldn't stay running after starting. It would immediately die. I tried a few times & no luck. I did rev the engine immediately after starting but died as soon as I took my foot off the gas. I happened to be coming out of Home Depot as I am knee deep in a home project so I'll be at the mercy of the mechanic tomorrow (being towed there now) as I've no time to look at this myself. No previous symptons...this happened all at once.

Any ideas what I should look out for?

Thanks!

JKK

Try cleaning the IAC & MAF sensor and see if that helps.

agreed.
I have a 98 explorer w 122K miles. I just had what sounds like the same problem.
Mine would start well enough and it wouldn't idle at all. It ran good, and I could drive if I 2 footed it (gas w/right + brake w/left). I had to keep the gas pedal pressed a little to keep the revs up.

I took off the IAC and cleaned it with alot of carb cleaner. There is a plunger inside that gets stuck when the gunk gets too deep. That worked and is still running fine.

Search for IAC and idle and fix or some combination.
