I wanna get rid of all the JBL stuff and put in a Kenwood headunit, speakers, cd changer and a Thunderform. Sound doable? What all would you suggest?

It's all a matter of how much you have to spend. That would help people give you suggestions. If you want a CD changer why not just get a cassette headunit and save some money. Pay 200 for the head unit and 175 for a 6 disc changer. As for speakers go with a good set of 5.25" Pay $30-$50 more. You will appreciate it. Use the 5.25"'s in the back and then get a good component set for the front. Mount the woofers in the doors and tweeters in the A-pillar. The thunderform is the expensive part of the system. 300 for no amp, 450 with amp. $150 for an 100watt amp is really good and the amp is made for the sub and it's special enclousure. Still you are talking about $1000 for the system and that's not including installation (I don't know if you know how to install it yourself) and amp hook up kits. I don't know if a hook up kit is included with the Thunderform. Tell me how much you wanna spend and if it's on the cheaper side I'll start over.

Well, you know, high school student........:D

Definately want the Thunderform. Or for now can I get a 8 inch and squeeze it in there and use the factory amp?

I am a high school student too. I paid for every thing in my system by my self. Don't bother trying to squeeze an 8 inch in there. It's not worth it. My system is as follows: Pioneer 4100 CD ($300 installed), Infinity components ($100), Pioneer 2-way 6x8's ($55), 2 10" RF with box and RF 150a2 amp (bought used from a friend for $350), amp hook up kit (%45). I installed this all my self except for the headunit cause it was free. To save around $200 don't buy a changer. At least right now. Best Buy will install headunits over $99 for free if you buy it there. But buy your speakers online. At least 1 pair from crutchfield cause they will send you everything you would ever need to know about installing your system in your Explorer. If you definately need the thunderform (which i think is a good deal I plan on getting one some time) you are at $400-$450 already. Then a headunit $250-$300. Speakers $175 for all 4. That's about $800. Then if you can't install it your self that's a whole lot more. Don't just buy the thunderform though. You will be sorry. The amplified thunderform is 100 watts. Match that up to your stock speakers and you won't hear anything but bass. I would say save up for a little while or do what I did. Buy a headunit now. Save up for 2 months buy speakers. Then buy the sub. One question. Do you have a job? If not get one and put your checks in the bank.

Yep, got a job. Now lets see, I have 80 bucks in my wallet right now.......:D

mrsteve,

I have a question to your response from above. You mentioned mounting 5.25" speakers in the rear, do you mean the rear doors or rear lift gate? The 5.25" are they speakers or subs, if speakers are they two or three way? excuse my ignorance. Why the 5.25"s and not a 5x7 or 6x8?

Thanks for your expertise.

I mean mounting the rear speakers in the rear doors or rear side panel (2dr). The 5.25" are coaxil speakers not subs. I my self have 6x8 speakers. I personally don't really like them all that much. My speakers are 2-way (no tweeter). They put out decent highs but the bass is horrible in my opinion. I hear that round speakers such as 5.25" or 6.5" sound much better in the bass department. After listening to some at Best Buy I agree. Although I got my 6x8's for $55. I plan on getting rid of them once I save some more money. I am not going to use rear speakers at all. I am going to keep my Infinity componets I have now (woofer in door and tweeter in A-pillar) and then buy a second set and mount them in kick-panel pods. Then buy an amp for them and mount in where the left rear speaker was behind the panel and then buy another sub and mount the amp for that behind the rear right panel where the speaker was. Thus allowing me to keep space and easy access to the amps.

ExplorerLTD how much do you make an hour? I used to work at a store where I was getting paid $6.50/hr. Now I am working at an upscale resturant as a bus boy and walking with $50-$115 a night in just tips not to mention a $4.00/hr paycheck. Look around for a good paying job cause $80 will get you a pair of speakers. That's it.

My job right now is mostly to buy cokes at school :D LOL, but I'm gonna start putting this stuff in the bank where I cant get to it :) I'll get me a real job here sometime. I walked out of there with 4.25 in tips tonight:D I dont work at an upscale restaurant, I dont even live near an upscale town!
