Yeah, the tire came off the Dodge today at about 45mph on the way to an appointment. Apparently my lug nuts weren't tight enough after I replaced the ball joints. I feel like an idiot. Fortunately no major damage other than a blown tire and a bruised ego. These Dodges are built to last!

No pics?

If the tire came off the rim but just blew, that would keep the wheel from hitting the ground...but if the tire/wheel comes off completely from loose lug nuts, usually the rotor/drum winds up going into the ground.

You lucked out somehow if the wheel came off completely but the affected corner didn't go down far enough to do any damage or cause a sudden stop.

The rotor did get hit a little, but that was it. My phone died so I couldn't take any pics.

:p:

You have to watch out for karma (truckma?) Dan :D. Glad you're O.K. tho' mate.

LOL, i kid kid, im glad Dan is ok and i tease..considering im on the phone with hm right now lol

ive had it happen to me twice. once on my s10 and once on my celebrity. however mine was cuz i overtightened them and when the aluminum rims heated up and i hit a bump it popped all 5 studs off. neither vehicle suffered any damage except a scuffed rotor and a bent dust cover. by any chance is your dash cracked.

see what happens when you promise a puppy that doesn't exist! roflol
Glad your OK

glad that your ok

Thanks guys. It was definitely a "clean your shorts" moment.

I used to be and still am very **** about tightening up those lug nuts, especially after this. That's what is the most frustrating aspect about that whole situation.

Alway use a torque wrench! Remember, you CAN over tighten them, which can be just as detrimental as under tightening them.

Glad your okay.

Turns out the damage was worse than I thought. The knuckle and the lower balljoint took a beating which means they will have to be replaced...again. Got quoted 1100 to do the job, I can get away with doing it for $200. Guess which way I am going? :D

Woot, now You'll have enough to buy a torque wrench and postit notes to remind you to tighten lug nuts :p:

Which upcoming podcast segment will this be on? :D

Clean your shorts and **** go hand in hand (does anyone clean their shorts anally?) :D, but be careful cause I reckon that dodge is looking for another excuse to try and rub you out.

Here is the damage pics Anime wanted...

This is where the tire blew out. Apparently the vibration rocked it so hard the a-arm tore into the side wall before sending it on its merry flight.

Damage to the rotor. Its not that bad, however the wheel studs got pretty messed up.

latestpics014.jpg

Where the stud? Also, the slide into first base took of a good half inch of cast iron metal of the base of the knuckle.

A underneath shot. What's left of the stud is pretty much welded to the knuckle. Its hard to even find it in the pic.

Wow, I'm glad you're ok man. How are you going to get the lower ball joint stud out of the knuckle?
