Hello everyone.. im a 31 yr old guy in lansing michigan formerly the heart of GM but we know how that goes.. I was raised by my grandfather and he retired from Ford.. So Ford and me go way back..
I have a 1993 XLT the trans went out on me a bit ago and I have been wanting to get in shape not just back on the road but i want to take it a step further I really want to make this truck a capable offroad rig.. Is it possible I have heard a few fols say its a great lightweight truck to start with put a Windsor in it and others say scrap it.. not sure if either source was reliable now.. so I came here to the Exlporer forum .. I figured if anyone knows you guys will..
A few years ago my trans (A4LD) died on me at a gas station I had been having to add trans fluid for a cpl months and i tried to get it into a few shops but everyone wanted to pull it and rebuild it.. and I'm not a fan of shop anyway I want a diagnostic and then i will go from there.. so i put it off for a bit and next thing i no i have no go.. i though i was just low on fluid.. so i added a bit and but it in gear, trans fluid shot from the bottom of the truck.. im thinking i blew a seal or something similiar mind you im no mechanic just real good with my hands and trying to figure things out..
I talked to a few folks and they say rebuild and that starts at 1500.00... No way!! or buy used for starting at 200.00 and deal with the same problem in less than 6 mths .. No way!!
Its a sound truck I just havent had time to figure it out or any Ford guys to shoot my questions to..
I replaced the motor a year before and really didnt know what direction I was going to take with the truck so i let if sit.
If anyone can help or offer any suggestions it would be appreciated.. Thanks in advance..
