i thought i'd introduce myself. My name is Timmy, i'm 17 and i live in Georgia. i own two vehichles, a '99 mazda protege and a '99 explorer xlt. when i first started driving my sister got the explorer as a gift from my grand dad, so she would have more room for he 2 children. i was given her protege with $1300 left until it was payed off. shortly after i payed it off the trans. went out, so for the summer i was driving the '99 explorer, and my sister got to drive my grandmothers infinti. well as soon as my trans. was fixed my sister decided she didn't want the explorer back and bought a 2004 expedition. my mom decided to keep the explorer for an extra vehicle, which was a great idea because i wrecked my protege. i still own the protege, but its just sitting in my driveway waiting for me to get the rest of the parts to fix it. well anyways about my explorer.

i don't have any idea where to start with it, its a 2wd v6. i normally wouldn't want to lift a 2wd, but after looking around this forum i've seen some nice explorers. i think i'd like to lift it to the height i would need to put some 33s on it. i'd also like to do a nice sounding exhaust and other power mods. like i said i have no idea where to start, and i'd like some idea's on where, what, and the price to start. maybe some more idea's of stuff to do to my explorer that's easy enough for a noob to do. i won't be able to start anything on my explorer right now, because i have to finish my protege. once i'm done with it i'll be spending money on the x!

list of stuff i want to do:
lift
33s
diamond cut headlights
billet grille, gas lid
remove roof rack
exhaust
chip?
intake
what else is there to do? what other mods would i need to support the mods i want to do? any other advice?

Thanks, Timmy

ok after searching (duh i tell people that all the time on the mazda forum) i found the 3 inch body lift (Performance Accessories kit #883). what else do i have to do to fit 33s? i also thought about taking the running boards off and getting nerf bars.

welcome to the site timmy and nice x u got there keep up the good work and don't forget to post pics of it when u do some mods to it.

i was thinking about painting all the chrome black, take the running boards off, replace them with black nerf bars, and remove the roof rack. probably get the rest of the truck painted back in the blue, it is now. then getting a billet grille, and the fuel door(maybe paint them black too). then i want to lift it a little, maybe 33s. then do an exhaust, intake and maybe chip. i'm not sure everything i need to do when lifting, i see a bunch of people changing gears. this is my first time lifting anything. my protege is lowered, easy change springs. i'll deffinitely do a system.

about lifting it i've found these:

edit. how do i lower the windsheild wipers?

for you a 3" body lift would be a great way to fit 33" tires. Or you can do a 2" trsion twist (2wd can do even a bit more) and shackles in the back, then a 2" body lift (easier to install, little less strain on everything) would clear 33's.

With 33" tires and the V6 either 4.10 or 4.56 gears in the 8.8 depending on how you drive, what trans you have and which V6.

there are some really nice 2wd trucks on this forum and others, lifted or lowered, or just cleaned up.
I say since you are 17 start small and learn along the way.

Welcome :)

since you got a 2wd you have more choices then the 4x4 explorers, you can use 3" spindals and 2"-3" torsion twist and move the rear leaf springs on top of the axle instead of under(soa) giving you around 5"-6" of lift all around and you wont have a problem with the 33's, also for exhaust i say 2 1/2" piping and flowmaster 40 series or 50 series muffler(40's are louder) but goodluck with your transformation
