Well me and my buddy spent four days workin on the truck. Thanks to cash for clunkers i found a front and rear axle housings off a 99 sport that has 410 gears. So we swapped them out on my truck, and while i had the front end torn apart, i decided to get rid of the crappy autozone neverlast ball joints, and install moog problem solver upper and lower ball joints. We also installed a 3 inch body lift on my truck because the 2 inch body lift was not enough for the new mud terrains.
when my buddy was doing the welds for the bumper brackets i was layin under the truck lookin at the cats. The ohv has two cats inline with each other. Whats the purpose of having two inline with each other? I want to mod the exhaust a little more, but don't want to dump the cats and go straight pipe. I have read that headers for the ohv do nothing, but if someone can show me that they do, please share! cuz i would love a pair. Anyways sorry for the long story, my question is....... do i need both cats? can i just buy one magnaflow hi flow cat and install with out any problems?

inline cats

I wasn't aware of that configuration. Does it look like the Magnaflow replacement in the photo below?

Catalytic converters require a specified amount of surface area to meet emission requirements. There may not have been enough room for a wider cat so two narrow cats were used. You may not be able to remove the oil pan or some other some other mechanical part without removing the exhaust system if you go to a physically wider cat.

yes, but they dont have the midpipe between them, you can replace them with a single universal cat if you want, (which is still legal and keeps the air clean) or the way that would get this thread closed

2000streetrod- Yep thats what they look like, but the magnaflow parts look smaller and like the other posting it doesn't have that middle section of pipe.

Awesome. Im not into dumping cats, it's against the law and the constant check engine light would drive me up the walls! So i guess i will crawl under the truck and take a look to see what fits. It's going to be hard though cuz the cats run very close to the tranny pan. anybody else done this mod by any chance?

Subscribing, interested in answers as well. Running Flowmaster catback right now and noticed some gains. With a 160hp rated V6 any gains are welcome.

If you put on high flow cats and headers with the magnaflow cat back you will lose some torque but gain horsepower and the loss will not be noticeable especially since you just put lower gears in. It may set the check engine light with headers and high flow exhaust.
