Just wanted to say hi, and by hi i mean get rid of the noob message!! lol

and also i have a question to the veterans, i have searched a bit and seen a lot of different answers, but im looking for the most probable.

a few weeks ago i bought a 02 sportrac with 55k on it. truck is in really great shape and seems to have no problem driving but the idle is quite rough. im getting no check engine light and ive also noticed that even on the highway i cant get any better than 15mpg. is this normal or do i have a problem???

im thinking maybe it just needs a tune up and a good injector cleaning but im not sure, also what do you guys recomend for as the best injector cleaner??

its a 4WD.

I plan on cleaning the MAF, IAC, and throtle body this weekend along with a seafoam treatment. also planning on changing plug wires, plugs, fuel and air filters as well. i figure its 60-70 well spent. im hoping also the MPG gets a little better, highway or town driving im only getting about 15 MPG.

Just out of curiousity, why ask if it is 4WD or 2WD, is there an issue with one or the other??

4wd Explorers will never get the same gas mileage as a 2wd Explorer. The front driveline is always spinning and decreases gas mileage.

I'd be surprised if you ever got over 17mpg on the highway.

2wd Explorers are able to reach 20mpg on the highway.

oh ok, I was told before buying that the 2WD got a little better than 20 on the highway, and the 4WD got about 20.

it probably also doesnt help that i think my truck has the 4.10 gears, its got every available option and from what i read if its a premium it has the 4.10

is that written in the VIN or is the axle codes somewhere else?

i have a 4x4 ranger lifted 5 inch and still am getting 17.5mpg on the highway

yeah so i loked today and axle code is D2, meaning limited slip 4.10 if what i read si correct, im sure that isnt helping at all.

oh well ill do my tune up and see what i get.

thanks guys!!
