Hi , hows it goin new exploer owner

Hey hows it going i just picked up a 2001 explorer XLT fully loaded with the 4.0 L SOHC engine in it , but there is a loud noise coming from the motor , motor starts up right away has no miss and problem compression is good across the charts (so im told) and has power , there is just a real loud rattle coming from the engine bay sounds like it could b timing chain slapping the case and gets louder and faster the more gas u give it , if anyone knows anything about this or ran into anything familair can can steer me in the right direction b4 i start the tear this engine down would be well appericated , the engine has 98k miles on it.

Start by doing a search for timing chain tensioner replacement. There are plenty of threads about this, is a very common problem.
