'95 XLT
Hi my names Mitch, I own a 1995 Explorer XLT which I love. I recenlty went off roading with some friends and i believe I blew the tranny out of her. But instead of fixing it, I was thinking of doing a swap to a v8. Ive always wanted a little more power under my hood to help me fly though the mud and pull me up hills. I also could never find a lift kit for a '95 explorer. I always wanted aound a 6" lift. So if theres a kit thats around 6" that i could fabricate to fit my explorer please tell me. Any reply is much apreciatted

Going to the 5.0 will be a challenge as your OBDI.5 That swap will be just like swapping a 5.0 into a 1st gen. Complete OBDII system will be needed to make this work, and the soldering of over 100 connections.

Lift kits are not offered for the 95 because of the T-bar mounts being welded not bolted like 96+ yrs. You can get a 4" drop bracket lift to fit with a little work to the T-bar mounts. 6" of lift will only be accomplished with a straight axle swap/spring over axle swap.

Check the stickies for lift options, search the forums registries for examples of lifts, its been covered already and your detailed answers await your reading.

Welcome To The Forum, The closest to 6inch your going to get with IFS is to get the 4inch superlift for 96+ Explorer and make it work on yours plus use WAR153 shackles in the rear and do a torsion twist, may not get you to 6inch but still get you descent height along with the bigger tires you're going to fit under it. And/or do a combination with a body lift but isn't going to give your frame anymore ground clearance.

Not to minimize the importance but your over complicating this. Why obd2 why solder 100 connections? This would only be necessary if using a ECM from an obd2 vehicle. They put the 5.0 in a lot of obd1 vehicles. This swap is pretty common check out the tech library on TRS or just search here.

Your welcome.

Read on in those threads and you will understand why running OBDII is used over OBDI. The Auto transmission ran behind the 5.0 found in the explorers have to have the OBDII ECM. If you want to go to a manual trans, then run the OBDI. Using any other 5.0 besides the one used in the Ex is a waste of time & $$. So it's a little work to wire it up, so what? Not everybody is afraid to wire things, and have all the things that OBDII has to offer over the outdated OBDI system.

The OP 95 is OBDI.5 already, and the .5 is the trans, it is OBDII. If you want to spend the time/$$ doing this 5.0 swap, just do it right.

My first choice would've an explorer 5.0 as well but this swap in RBV's has been around long before v8 explorers and 4r70's. A mustang 302 and an aod would get you a efi with overdrive on obd1 and As far as $$ it's all relative to how good a deal you get on used parts. My swap is simpler yet just sell your v6 sploder and buy a v8 sploder which I'm hopefully doing sunday.
