Have a vintage 2004 explorer:rolleyes:....... DIY kept it alive awhile. replaced thermostat about 1yr ago. recently suddenly overheated while driving. replaced thermostat again.....still over heating 10- 15mins after start. Replaced housing assembly not just thermostat because bolts for thermostat door got stuck. thinkingbad water pump maybe likely the problem but figured good to ask here for 2nd opinions.

Water pump and/or fan clutch. If you decide to replace them do both. I prefer Gates, Motorcraft or Hayden brand pumps and heavy duty fan clutches.
