Ford Explorer 2002
Hi there! My name is Kevan and I have a 2002 4x4 4.0 v6 explorer and the reason I joined is because I have a problem with my explorer and was hoping someone could help me out with it.

Now to the problem. I have had the truck pretty much sitting all winter outside, anyway I went to start it up today and the battery was dead, so I charged it up and started everything started just fine; until I went to shut it off. When I shut it off and pulled the key out about 7 seconds later the radio turned back on and it was almost like the key was still in the on position. I tried everything to get it not to do that with no luck. I obviously started and pulled the key out a few more times, opened and closed all the doors and nothing the radio stays on and drains the battery. I just don't know what to do now

temp fix could be take out the radio fuse,
till you figure out why it is coming back on,,

i would say to check the ignition switch the key goes in,

does it feel different now than it did before, ??

they do go bad,

I don't think it's just the radio. It has auto lights as well when it's not in the off position they come on as well. I just don't get it. I would think it could be the ignition if it stayed on all the time but it doesn't. It comes on again like 7-10 seconds after I pull they key. It beeps and does pretty much the same thing as if I put the key in and put it I the on position.

disconnect the battery leave it off for about 10 minutes and reconnect it,

that should let the system reset,,
maybe that will fix it

Ok, I just pulled the battery connections. I'll let you know what happens in about 30 min as I have to recharge the battery as well.

It won't let me post in the tech forums? Is it because I am a new member

When you turn the key off the stereo should stay on until you open the door, then go off automatically.

So if it is doing what your saying, then best guess is either a faulty door switch or the GEM (Generic Electronics Module) is on the fritz. (still "thinks" the doors are closed)

You can test the door switches using the dome light as your test light.

Open each door one at a time, and see which one does not turn on the dome light.

If you have a bad door switch I believe you have your culprit.
