Do you just want to disable the DRL's after the HID install?

I think that would be the best, that way your ballasts aren't constantly on.

The ballasts aren't affected, they are used for the initial arc of the bulb.... Flipping them on and off will shorten the life though.....
The only thing about DRL is the life of the bulb.

dont HID bulbs last longer than regular halogen bulbs?

Yes, but average bulb life is still around 3,200 hours vs 2,000 on an average halogen.
Why put the extra wear and tear on the bulb?

so let me get this straight, the best way to install them is by just getting rid of the DRL's?

What type of bulb do you use? Single bulb 9007? Or seperate bulbs for high & low.
I dont know what years went to the two bulb system for high & low beam.

DRL's off is your best bet.

I dont know what years went to the two bulb system for high & low beam.
9007's by default are a dual filament bulb...
Hid's for the 9007 base come in four configurations.

1. Single Capsule HID High Beam Only
2. Dual Capsule HID High/Low
3. Single Capsule HID Low /w Halogen High Beam
4. Single Capsule HID /w sliding reflector for High/Low

Ya so, what kind of bulb does an 02 X use?
What year (s?) did they go to a seperate bulb for high & low?
That is my question.

low beams are a 9006, which are what i am wanting to put in, but the DRL's are on the low beams. In a perfect world they would be on the high beams.
High beams are a 9005.

Well on GM cars they use the high beams as the DRLs. Operated at 50%, or some such % of power, so as not to be offensive.
If Ford also uses the reduced power for their DRLs then I cant see why you cant make the high beams your DRLs. Seems like it would just be switching a few wires.
It is easy to say but I have no idea how to do it or if it can be done.
Anyway thats my 2 cents worth of information.

I would still like to know what years have the 4 bulb system as opposed to the 2 (9007) bulb system.

i'm pretty sure 2002 was the first year for that. The 2001 still had the single hi low bulb (9007)

Did you ever solve the DRL dilemma?
