1992 Ford Ranger
Hey there,
I can't seem to find any real answers to my issue here so I figured I'd just make a post.
I have a 92 ford ranger 4x4 v6 4.0l ohv
So I replaced my upper and lower intake manifold gaskets to solve the pinging under load issue, which was a success. after this repair the truck would rev to 1500~ on startup sit there, slowly idle down, and either miss at ~400rpm or shoot back up to 1000. was throwing an engine light, but never got to grabbing code. I replaced mt IACv thinking that was the issue, which didn't help. after that I pulled off my MAF sensor and cleaned the wires and this solved the low idle problem and engine light went off. Unfortunately, it went from idling low and missing to idling super high in neutral. The only thing i wonder is i took the TPS off at same time of cleaning MAF, but don't know why that would affect it or why pushing clutch down would make the rpm drop back down. Drives fine in gear, shoots to 3k with clutch in, but drops down after a few seconds of sitting with clutch pushed in.
Any ideas???

Hmmm....

Have you checked the voltage of the TPS? I can't think of much else really.

What is the build date of the ranger as a 92 model?

I am only asking because late 92 added one extra oxygen sensor to the drivers side.

It should only have a IAC, MAF and TPS and 1 but possibly 2 oxygen sensors.

I am having the SAME problem with my '94 Explorer (although I did not change the intake gaskets). Did you ever figure out what was causing yours?
BTW I have replaced (with NIB Motorcraft) the IACV and the TPS and cleaned the MAF. I also disconnected the Cruise Control this AM to see if that helped - no joy....
Thanks in advance for any help
Mark
