98 SOHC with 118k

I have a 98 SOHC XLT 2w drive with 118k miles. This has been a great Ford. The things I have done to it is normal PM (oil changes, brake job, and trans fluid changes etc). I have replaced the radiator due to tank crack, and now I'm in the process of fixing a leak which I believe is from the thermostat housing. I also had a recent failure of the transmission cooler in the radiator resulting in Trans fluid in radiator (what a mess) and water in trans, which needs flushing. Not sure of any damage yet but trans still working now. The Exp still had all original hoses and axillary drives like A/C etc. Ford replaced the timing belt tensioner system a while back under waranty.

I have a 97 XLT with only 90k on it. Got it for free because the lady was going to send it to a scrap yard because it "needed an engine".

The same mechanic that diagnosed the Explorer diagnosed her 02 dodge intrepid. The car was blowing blue smoke, needed a quart of oil added every week, had a check engine light on.... and he told her nothing was wrong with it. So I knew right off the bat without listening to the Explorer that it most likely did not need a whole new engine. I told her if she was going to pay a junk yard to come pick it up, I'd get a rollback there in an hour to pick it up.

about 15 hours of labor and a balance shaft tensioner and jackshaft chain tensioner later.... i have a fully loaded 97 xlt with low miles on it and it runs and drives great!

I did make the mistake of getting one tensioner from Ford (the jackshaft) and the balance shaft tensioner from Advance Auto.... I think the balance shaft tensioner wasn't quite tight enough? There shouldn't be any play, right? I still have the death rattle but its real quiet now. You can only hear it if the hood is open.

I had 199,980 on a 99 Sport that ran like new. Then I sold it like an idiot.

i have 145,000+ on my 2001 sport trac had to do few repairs along the line

'97 XLT 5.0 with 236K original motor and tranny. replaced rad recently.

Explorer mileage

My 1996 UN XLT 4WD has done 231,000kms.

New Ford factory motor at 205,000. The other one just plain worn out. Runs like a well oiled sewing machine.

Auto recon and torque converter at 230,000.

New lower front ball joints last week at 231,000.

New wiper blades, front and back, yesterday.

The rest of the vehicle is very good, paint, upholstery etc, but couple of stone chips on windscreen. Fix them next week with a DIY kit

my 97 xlt has 182,4xx miles with original trans and engine. I've only changed the waterpump and t-stat. brakes once.

93 eb has 212,x.. original trans and engine when i parked it to do the sas. it still runs good a little lifter noise though.

97 eddie bauer with 96,000, needs i.a.c. valve replaced (Knock on wood that's all)

115,x.. on my '00 5.0 V8. Runs like a CHAMP. Have great faith for 100,000 more.

120K on my 2000. It's going to need brakes soon, and I'm gonna replace the shocks. But everything else looks good.

139k on my 1998 SOHC 4X4 XLT.

Drove it for about 80k before I did the 00m12 fix. It runs better than it ever has since I bought it with 35k.

To do:
Determine why ABS light is on (tips are appreciated)
New console lid
New shocks

97 XLT with 144k, Trans has been rebuilt and shift kit installed. Runs good, hear some little complaints from the valve train but not to much noise.

Try replacing the rear speed sensor on top of the axle. It's usually the culprit and only costs about $10.

Do a search on eBay for console lid skin. Some guy sells them for about $15 and they match the interior PERFECTLY.
