Does anyone have any recomendations for a good alternator thats gonna be putting out around 150 to 200 amps? Rather than getting the current alternator rewound id like to keep it as a back up so im looking for some reputable choices. Thanks!

Thanks for that link soupbone. That's just what I've been looking for.

I had mine rewound to 200A at mralternator.com. I think they sell 200 amps outright too. I don't know about the new units, but they did a spectacular job on my rewind. They also sell chrome and powdercoat alternators.

on a side note, MrAlternator didn't send me a new pulley so the output was low at idle. I got them to send me a new (smaller) pulley which fixed that problem but it chewed up about 1 belt each month. I got tired of replacing belts and put the old pulley on. Anyone else have this problem?

Codewiz. I have had that problem with other vehicles in the past. When looking into a high output alternator you must look at the idle amperage as well as peak. Much like in a stereo system peak means very little. You should Never put a smaller pulley on for exactly the reason you described. Powermaster has a decent idle rating. I would recomend looking for 55 amps or higher at idle.

I replaced mine (90) with one for a Explorer Limited (140) from Auto Zone (remanufactured). I got 50 additional amps for a cheap price and it can be replaced at any AUto Zone for free. :D

Good idea.

I'll have to check into that when mine goes. I'll try getting one at a junk yard off a newer Explorer Limited too.
