Can anyone provide a site that has good bulbs? Last year I ordered from Performance Products and was I got was very disapointing. One bulb burned out within hours, and the other's glass envelope was loose and misplaced which caused a focus problem.

I need 9004's in 80/100 Watt configuration.

Hank,

Thanks for the heads-up. Great prices too. Performance Products gets $29.95 each for their no-names.

I'll be ordering today.

Just be careful--I've come to the conclusion that that the old rule "You get what you pay for" really applies here. I have the PIAA's
that I got on sale for approx. $50.00 each and I like them very much. In the end though its all up you as far as whether the extra lighting power is worth it to you or not.

Ok, I finally got them. Delay was my fault as I never replied to an e-mail they sent.

Put them in last night and love them. Much brighter and whiter than the stock bulbs. Not more distance as that is a factor of the stock lenses. Had to appologize to an elderly neighbor as I was outside at 9:30 comparing the old bulbs to the new. Guess they did not love them.

Even better was a total cost less than $28.00. Including a reasonable 6.00 shipping charge (priority mail, actual cost of 3.35.) I'll buy from these guys again.

Since they are true Hella's, not no-names, in this case I feel I got more than I paid for. PIAA is very good but at $50.00 ea on sale I ran the other way. The money I saved can go for a second set of the Hella 550's for the roof rack.

Best regards.

Hank,
I just ordered 4 of them yesterday. Total cost was $45.00 or so, with Blue Label shipping.

Glad to here they are working out.

Hello Ron,

They may work too well. I'm getting a lot of people flashing their high beams at me. I'm going to adjust the lights down a bit as it looks like they shine a bit higher than the stockers.

But boy are they bright... I can see signs reflecting WAY down the road.

Let me know how you make out.

Best regards.

Hank,
I just got mine today (2 days from order date). Will install tomorrow and take a country test drive at night.

Total cost with Priority Mail was $49.00.

Did you guys get the standard bulbs or the High Intensity Plus bulbs? And do they look a lot whiter than the yellowy stock bulbs?

Boy, I'm stupid. I did not scroll down the rest of the page at http://catalog.com/susq/hella/bulbs.htm and completely missed the High Intensity Plus bulbs for only $3.00 more...... Thanks for tossing salt in my open wound....

I guess I just have the standard bulbs but boy are they bright and definatly not yellow...

However I saw this at the bottom of the HI+ listings so I guess I don't feel too bad after all.

Hella calls them "High Intensity Plus (HIP)." I call them still a little blue, not really white, but whiter than the old "Blue Star" bulbs. The HIP is a coated bulb that emits a bluish/white color close to that of the Gas Discharge headlamps on some Mercedes and BMWs. It's performance is far less than a Gas Discharge lamp however - In this case, it's the look that counts. According to the manufacturer, the color is a result of the composition of the gas and of a dichroic coating on the bulb.

Best regards.
hg
