I recently picked up a box of 6 quarts of this oil, Mobil 1 Synthetic Performance formula, which is 15W-50.

My question, I have a SOHC V6, nothing special, will this be too thick for the valves and what not? Should I return and get some 10W-30 oil instead?

I'd rather not take the trip to go replace, but if I have to, I gladly will. Will this cause problems in the engine or anything?

I read on, and it's good for supercharged/turbocharged vehicles.. so I'm not really sure how that could be applied to the X.

Enlighten me. =)

Thanks much.

sounds too thick the reccomended is 5w30. if they have the new m1 5w40 try that. otherwise unless you are having probs stay to the reccomended weight

the next lower i believe is 10w-30, would that be okay? it prefers that formula to be ran on vehicles over 70,000, i'm nearing 71,000 myself.

also, the 10w-30 is the most recommend for multi-driving styles and enviornments.. think i'm going to go ahead and do that i think

i have 78k on mine and run 5w30 without problems. mainly cause it has gotten down to -10f 10w30 should be fine in california.

the 5w40 is brandnew i am not sure if it is even out yet

oil

I would not use 15w-50 oil. Ford specifically says to use 5w-30, although 10w-30 is acceptable. I see no reason to doubt them, or what benefit you would realize by going to a heavier, non-recommended oil weight.

I would NOT use 15w50.. I do however use Mobil 1 as follows: Summer 3qts 10w30 2qts 5w30, Winter 2qts 10w30 3qts 5w30

Use the recommended oil. But by all means use a synthetiuc, Mobil 1 or Ansoil.
