96' Ford Explorer XLT 4x4
I asked this question a while back but didnt really get a straight answer. I bought gap guards from 4wheel parts like 8 months ago but have yet to put them on for my 96' exploder. The guy at 4wheel parts said they only carried gap guards for 91-95' i believe it was. 4wheel parts said theyd fit on a 96. I know 95' and 96' should be the same so im assuming i wont have any problems putting them on? I would just like some reassurance :)

95 vs. 96

On this one, although I don't have the tech knowledge to answer, if it's for 91-95, why put it on a 96? You can't find one for a 96? Did you try JCWhitney.com or Central4wd.com ?

My answer to you for the fit would, be no, they don't fit. If you can't find one for a 96, ask 4wp why they don't have it... suerte!

'95 and '96 are effectively the same vehicle. I'm surprised that they have something listed fro a '91-'95 (maybe a typo?) since the '95 is a significant change over the '91-'94 vehicle style.

You don't recommend asking...

Since there have been a few not so happy customers of 4wps here, would it be a good idea to ask another parts store if they have a 96 version?

(bw2002, can you post the part name and number?)

ya ill post the part # n such when i get home...at 4wheel parts they said they didnt carry a gap guard for the 96' and up...i havent really searched around though for the part since 8 months ago...

Their site shows nothing for 95 or 96

Stylintrucks.com shows 96... suerte!

?

I see 96-2000... where do you see 91-95?

From the Stylin Trucks web site.......

Correct...

So that would mean that the ones from 4wps is not likely suited for the poster's vehicle?

For safety reasons...

I know nothing tech, but if the product is available for a 96, it seems like you would be safest going with the 96. If it's part of your suspension, 96.

soooo has anybody come to a conclusion? why would the 95' not fit the 96'???

I personally would go with the '96-up style. I'd bet they goofed on the writeup on the '91-'95 and it actually should be '91-'94. The frame on a '95 is considerably different than the frame on a '94 in the area around the front axle due to the TTB setup on the '94 and the IFS setup on a '95.

ya but the problem is i already purchased the " 91-95' " 8 months ago, just havent messed with them, so say they ARE for 91-94, will i be able to make them fit on my 96?

probably with some alterations.

hopefully i will only need to trim if they need trimming, otherwise I hope they're the right size/shape...

Liability

There is a massive liability issue here... If you want to be safe, sell the ones you bought and get the correct fit. If anything happens to you or your vehicle, anyone that advises you to proceed here has done so in writing, even if you asked. For your safety, and since you've held off for 8 months, please get the proper design so that the liability is the manufacturer's. I don't know the importance of this part, but if it has a specific year application, you are making a mistake trying to make it fit. I wish you luck :salute:

(I'm not being contentious here, it's just a little advice)

lol...its a gap guard...it has no moving parts...i do appreciate the concern but i dont see any liability at all...

hahah it falls off and jams the tire causing you to roll 40 times...anyways.

Anyways I'm assuming your truck is lifted since you got gap gaurds, take one of the front ones and just cram it in there and see if it covers everything you want it to. Then if you need to drill new holes and crap to mount'em you at least know they'll fit....unless they're stiff but I'm sure you could sneak those bad boys in there with your tires on.
