I got a used winch many months ago, had a wreck (ruining the center of my stock bumper) and got bored. The frustration of having a winch I couldn't use was more than I could stand. I built a basic winch cradle out of scrap iron at the shop. Very functional and ruged, but boy did it look like sh!%. So today I hacked off the ends of my bumper and welded the mounting tabs on backwards and mounted them outside the framerails. Take a look:

looks good. I'll get a closer look on Saturday, maybe I can give you a few suggestions.

looks good but how i it attached? welded or bolted to the frame? and will it hold up to heavy winching?

it looks a little ghetto, but I really like it :).

Thanks Digger.

The winch cradle is bolted to the frame w/grade 8 hardware. I pulled a Z-71 about 100' through Spring Creek and up an embankment with no sign of shifting/movement so it's definately solid.

I think I'll take Cory's advice and mount it higher on the next revision. All depends on what's available in the scrap pile...

I like the revision a lot better. It looks like you have it held on with the stock bumper bracket bolts ?!?!?!?! Please say I am missing the good hardware. If I am not I would strongly encourage you to put some good stuff in its place.

Yes, those are the stock bumper bolts. They're class 10.9 metric bolts (stronger than grade 8 hardware) but I will be welding the bumper to the frame when I finalize it.
