My buddy has a 97 2WD Explorer with a Genuine Steel black powdercoated euro style grille guard. I was wondering whether there was a way to add a winch to it. I was thinking along the lines of say a winch plate and new reinforced mounting plates to strengthen the attachment of the grill guard to the frame. Anyone tried this? Failing that I guess he would have to get a front receiver and one of the detachable winch mounts.

I would not recommend using the guard to winch anything.

WAAG makes a euro-style brushguard that is designed to accomodate a winch. $700

You can also get a front mount receiver hitch. Then buy a winch mount accessory. $150

i agree, do not try and modify a brushguard to accept a winch.. it may work, but it probably wont..... if he is serious about the winch, and wants the brushguard, then have him get a brushguard that has a provision manufactured into it for a winch..... or go the receiver route with a multimount winch plate.....
