My 2013 EX Limited 302A package came with the Car2U, programed to a Chamberlain garage door opener no problem.

Just curious as to the age of the Chamberlain garage door opener... I have their "latest and greatest" opener and I can't get the Car2U to link with it. I have ordered the Car2U conversion module and the dealer said they'd fill my fuel tank when I bring the car in for servicing the first time to "keep me happy". Thankfully, the conversion shouldn't be difficult to install... each opener has it's own power outlet. I've ordered two modules, as I have two garage doors.

Genie Compatibility??

Well, I hope that this thing works properly with Genie garage door openers!

My neighbor bought a Limited but does not have a need for a garage door opener. He is going to let me swap my visor for his and get his opener on my car!

From what I've read about the issue with Car2U is with Sears, Chamberlain and LiftMaster; not necessarily ALL units by these brands. There have been reports that many gates are not compatible.

Quick update.

Home link should work with lift master the opener at my building, but apparently it will not work with door king, the program that my building uses to program/run the remotes... ::grumble::

Oops the opener I programmed was a Wayne Dalton ProDrive 3220c, the chamberlain is at my lake house, haven't been there since getting the EX... My memory failed me. :(

I have a Chamberlain Liftmaster Professional 1/2HP that was installed in 2005 and the Car2U limked up without a problem.

Peter, while it may have 'limked' up without a problem, did you have any difficulties getting it linked up? :D

Ordering Replacement Visor for 2011

Does anyone know the associated part number for the Homelink visor (NOT Car2U). I am in a similar position as others where my door opener is hard wired and plugging an adapter to an outlet is not an option.

Assuming the price isn't outrageous, I would be interested in ordering a 2013 Homelink visor to replace my 2011 Car2U visor. (I know, it's probably outrageous)

Any info is appreciated.

If I were in your position, I'd seriously consider changing the hardwiring to an outlet and plug system, if that is possible. I've read that when you go away for an extended period of time, it is a safer method since you can then unplug the opener and nobody can open the door. Just a thought.

My 2013 Explorer Limited built 6/10/2012 came with Homelink and I could not be happier. All 3 vehicles I have, possess the Homelink versions and work flawlessly...

CAR2U with HOA Gate

OK, so I have a 2013 EX, Limited 302A pkg acquired in April 2012. It is pretty well loaded and I really am loving it. Except, I was blessed with CAR2U visor instead of the Homelink version. I have extensive history with Homelink and really wish I had drawn a different hand.

Non-the-less, I couldn't bring myself to fork over the cash for a new visor...I'm not cheap, just trying to be responsible with the resources I've been blessed with. Anyway, I was able to program CAR2U to my Chamberlin and Gene garage door openers with no problem...they both are fairly modern with the "learn" button. Now for the HOA gate...no joy. After extensive discussion with CAR2U and some fast talking to the security company that has the gate contract with the HOA, I obtained all the secret voodoo and codes to program CAR2U. And it worked first try.

CAR2U had to send me a programming procedure and the security company had to cough up the TX ID for my transmitter because it did not have a sticker on it with the ID, in spite of some insistence that it did. All in all, I invested about 8 to 10 hours of discussion and multiple failed attempts due to initial misinformation. But, when the stars finally all lined up, the programming went perfectly. CAR2U support was great.

A mystery solved, and some personal satisfaction from overcoming the gauntlet presented me by the situation.

Homelink learning visor is by far the best way to go...Take that as a challenge CAR2U (Lear Corporation).;)

^ Thanks for posting that. It answers a few questions I had about the whole Car2U thing. What I still don't understand is why some people get Car2U and others get Homelink? It would seem that we lucked out and got the Homelink (thankfully!).

That is strange that people with 302A limited may have either one. Mine was built in June and I have homelink...

It is odd. I have been trying to make sense of it, but I can't seem to find a pattern.

My '13 Limited with package 301A came with the Car2U unit. Craziest programming sequence ever when it came time to program for our entrance gate. I wish I had the Homelink module instead.

My Explorer with the same package came with the Car2U unit as well. The only way it would work to program my garage is to buy some adapter. I didn't buy the adapter so I'll just continue to use the opener I have. I wish I had the Homelink as well. Ford should just use only the Homelink unit in all their vehicles.

So I have gone through all the posts here

Of those with 2013 Limited 302A, 3 said they have Car2U and 4 said Homelink.

My theory right now is maybe anything built before May 2013 has Car2U and anything after has Homelink

EDIT: The ones mentioning 301A (2 people) were Car2U. And two people just said Limited (didn't mention package) and had Homelink
