Hood Protectors & shine

I have a 1991 Explorer,Eddie Bauer series,4X4 ,4Dr., with a hood protector.I'd like to bring the hood protector back to lookin new , if possible.
Would sanding with 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper bring this thing back. or what would y'all use on it? Thanks for any help in this matter.

The hood visor? If its plastic and has been beaten by the sun and dulled sanding it and waxing it might help, it works great with headlight lenses that have yellowed.

i used rubbing compound and wax on my moms bug deflector that was on the truck sense new in 94' made it look like new.
