I decided that the KKM was heating up too much for my liking so I purchased a set of black hood scoops.
After looking to paint them on my own I couldn't resist the $80 I paid to have a shop do it all instead of paying nearly $40 for just the paint.

I cut out the holes to make these functional then took to my hood for 4 nice holes, leaving the cross member in place. I then added nine rivets along each side to keep these suckers down.

Here is a couple pics.

that looks really good, do you have any more close up pics of it?

yeah on undeveloped film. I am going to be taking it in soon.
Thanks for the compliments. I did this before Colorado and forgot to post pics. It might be one of my favorite mods so far. Nothing like taking a sawzall into your hood (at the time not sure if they would work.

Have you determined the difference, if any, in intake air temperature since the addition of your scoops?

Thanks.....

Looks good
But i would like to see a closer look at the hood scoops
Also Did you have fun Playing DOCTOR to your hood.

How do you keep water out? or doesnt that hurt anything?

Dannyboy

That looks sweet :D :D :D

I'm going to do this mod. There is another post on this board of a red Ex with the same scoops. I bet it would really help disipate some of the heat under the hood.

Hey Danny, did you use any type of screen in the scoops to keep big crap out? Oh and are those the Lund big or medium one's?

I want to see some pictures of the installation from under the hood and the rivets on top...

danny i take it those are the lund hood scoops? make a differance on the temp? cause mine been heatin up too. LOOKS GOOD!

OK Ex Buds, I got more pics back and I have no close ups of under the hood or on top, but will take some soon.
I am real impressed with how it releases heat.
You can really hear the KKM suck more air, and it is obliviously cold (Stick your hand over one of the scoops and feel it pull when someone applies throttle)
I wouldn't venture out and say that I have more HP, or anything but it does run cooler and cool off faster.
I like it a ton with the KKM
I cut it wide open and do not worry about crap going in, (my hood is about 5 ft. in the air, engine gets dirty regardless)
Lunds yes, size don't know Explorer Eddie bought them out of JC whitney and didn't use them

I was thinking of ways to run a cone from a hole to the filter for a ram effect but I think in crappy conditions that would be a bad idea. As for everything other than my air filter, I don't mind getting it wet, haven't had a prob yet except alternator which eventually dried out by continuing to run it(prior to scoops)
and lastly here is a shot from the drivers seat. Kinda cool

Here is a pretty poor shot of under the hood but you can see where I cut the 4 holes and left the cross bars in place

I like it.

My headers produce a lot of heat under my hood, I have taken several measures to try and help out. I was planning to purchase a fiberglass hood with a 2-3" cowl to help solve this, but then I have also been considering a small scoop on the passenger side directly above the KKM.
My stock hood has some slight hail damage and has been through a wreck, etc so I dont mind cutting it wide open. My factory heat shield pad thingy has been removed long ago.

Some close up pic's of where the hood meets scoop (mounting) from both sides would be terrific!

Thanks dude! Hey and are you sure thats 5'-0"?

Hey 410Fortune

Have you tried header wrap it done wonders on my 91 LX 5.0:D

No header wrap. It can kill headers quickly, corrosion, or so I have been told..

I plan to runa cowl hood eventually, to feed my cold air intake, but those are $400 so for now I may do the scoops. :)

I have a cowl hood on mine it helps a little but it gets so dam hot under the hood. The header has not done no damage and they have been wrapped twice in the last two years I have BBK jet coated shorties:D

What do you expect to atrain in intake air temperature by using some sort of hood scoop?

Thanks.....
