Hood wont open

So I have tried most of what I know. Banging, hitting, some cussing. I had the same problem last weekend and got it with a pair of pliers pulling on the cable.
I got an oil change done today and bought a K&N to drop in when I got home. So I know that it can open, I just can't think of any other ways to get it to open up.


so any of you know a "trick" to get it to work?

I had a similar problem with my 2001 Explorer Sport. One day I found that the hood would not release. Before that, I was able to open the hood by pulling the release under the dash without any problem.

I had to pull the latch under the dash while somebody else lifted the hood in order for the hood to release. I used some lithium grease to lubricate the hook of the latch assembly as well as the metal loop it attached to under the hood. I tried WD40 but that didn't seem to last too long before the problem returned. It's been about 2 months since using the lithium grease, and I have not had any problem opening the hood.
