As stated on my subject matter, I am hooked on Explorers, this is my 5th and hopefully, there will be many more.

It has always been hard to find information on how to modify them or to find proper information on performance parts and safe modifications for them, I have managed, but now I own a 2005, 4.0 , xlt and would like to get some feedback, guidance and suggestions on what to do that would be safe for the engine.

I have been reading some of the postings, but find little on 05s, I would like info. On CAI, although I am leaning towards the kkm vs. the K & N, the question is, do they have a 05 kit? Or will the 04 kit do on the 05?

What can I do on mufflers/exhaust?

I will continue reading and on the meantime, thank you guys for putting this site, found it this past weekend and so far…………..

Welcome! I don't have much experience with the newer models but do you have any plans on mods for it other than intake/exhaust?

ty, sure but maybe later on, at this time, just want more git and go........

Welcome aboard!

On the intake the only kit available for the '05 4.0 is the one from KKM. In 05 they integrated the maf into the airbox, so the 04 kit wont fit

With the exaust, magnaflow has a side exit, and mac has a rear exit. Or you could get a shop to bend you up some custom pipes.

on the exhuast just get a muffler you like and have a shop do it, you get just what you want, i bought my muffler through my shop and it was 250'ish for a magnaflow muffler and 2.5" pipe and 3.5" tip

Ty

Thank you guys for the advice, will look into it.

Surreal, have u installed the kkm intake? and if so, was it easy to do so?hard? or do u know anyone who has.....regards

nah, all i got is the k&n drop in.
I beleive its suposed to be realy easy to do, and alot of people on the site have em, and like em

i have a K&N intake on my 98 and it was really easy took like 30 min. i know it is not a 2005 but it cant be that different.

more questions on intakes

courier new

Hey, when you install a cai and this increases your hp as well as torque, do you need to do something to your brakes? besides making sure they are in tiptop shape?

it will not add that much hp mine added 8'ish hp, the number is from K&N so it is high, but i do have powerslot rotors and hawk pads and love them, both from tirerack but i have a 98 X, you should make use your breaks are in tiptop shape anyway.
