This was an email a member on the Explorer FB page got today:

Good Morning Mr. Lucas,

Earlier this morning, we received a response from our research department in regards to your order status. We w...ere informed that there is currently a hold on all 2011 Explorers. The reason for the hold has not been disclosed at this time. Unfortunately, we do not have an estimated time for when your Explorer will be released from the hold. For the most up to date, detailed information, please continue to work with your dealership. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Just ordered my Explorer XLT today.

Maybe this is the reason they are on hold?
NHTSA has reported that Ford Motor Company has recalled their 2011 Explorer models with 60% rear seats with manual recline mechanisms, stating that “in the event of a crash, the seat back may not provide the required strength, increasing the risk of injury.” The recall campaign was expected to begin on February 14,2011.

Found it here: http://kansascity.injuryboard.com/d...-of-defective-seat-backs.aspx?googleid=288592

Thanks..but I think they already fixed that problem & noted it was vehicles built early in production.

Sad that Ford will not tell us the reason.

Yeah, I was reading this was from earlier in the month. Sorry about that. Interesting there's no word on it. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough. Another recall coming? Hmm.

Yes..and the fact Ford is keeping mum makes it seem worse! LOL
My truck doesn't even have a VIN yet..so hoping they work out all the bugs before getting to mine! :)

We do know a few issues that ford has been 'MUM' on.

1. Panels not lining up.
2. seal issues on earlier builds

My guess is it is one of two of these things... And extra quality checks going in to make sure they don't have to fix these things later. Hence the "hold."

My guess is this hold time will get shorter and shorter... As they figure out causes of what is going wrong and fix them before they are built..

There was also a transmission and brake shuddering problem. They probably found issues with the brakes because two people had their brakes fail or not brake properly.

Other issues were the APIM in the MFT
2nd row seats lever.
Other complaints have been updates(system maintenance) being done while using NAV system & it all shuts down.
Default lights coming on & staying on(oil pressure etc)
One person had a problem with her brakes, but never came back with how it was resolved.

I don't think Ford will be holding any press conference to explain the holds. LOL

Craig's facebook response to why the hold from a facebook user.

"@Rebecca - not certain, other than I know it was a Quality hold. Typically, this means that an issue was discovered during inspection, all vehicles are held until we determine the cause, and, if neccessary, make any repairs. Usually caused... by a part falling out out-of-spec. If we think vehicles have left the plant with the same issues, we arrange to have them repaired at the dealership. If the vehicle was sold, we notify the owner. Usually not a big deal, except in this case, we have so many customer retail orders being held. I expect that we will resume shipping very soon. Craig"

I noticed some quality paint issues that were missed.

At the bottom of my drivers door below the interior trim on the sheet metal the Tuxedo Black is very thin and you can see a little green undercoat or primer. Same for around the top of the rear hatch interior opening where the wires come out to enter the hatch door.

Mine was supposed to come off the assembly line on Feb. 24th. When Seni replied to me on the morning of the 25th, she said that it still showed as being 'In production'. ETA at the dealership was Feb. 28th. I'll check back with Seni on March 1st if it hasn't arrived to see if it may have been held up.
Will post reply.

Craig @ Ford posted on the Explorer FB site yesterday that there are no holds on the 2011 Explorer. Mine was built 2/15, held about two days, then released to shippping.

I hope they squash the rumors, speculation is at times more detremental than the facts....

I think a lot of the stuff that gets posted about Explorer quality issues is speculation put out by people worried about their new 2011 Explorers and also those who wish to tarnish the reputation of Ford.

Yes indeed you are correct. And I have been thinking that this new Explorer may not be for those with low tolerance for tech heavy products.
