so im driving to work this morning, and all is fine, and i notice that my truck is making this awful squeeking noise coming from the front end, i think - it didnt do it at first, i had to drive a few miles before it started. kinda hard to explain what it sounded like, because it wasnt a constant squeek - it would only squeek for a nanosecond, almost as if it was timed for every revolution of a wheel, but when i was driving faster, it just sound constant (higher speed = small interval between squeeks, and they all ran together.) anyway, it only did it while the truck was moving. when i applied the brake it would stop immediately, then start again when i took my foot off the brake. at a red light, i held the brake and revved the engine a lil, and it didnt do it - its definitely something with the wheels/brakes/hub/something like that (sorry, i dont know all the crap in there is.) heres the twist; at a red light, i put it in "park", and put it right back in "drive", and when i start driving again, it doesnt do it anymore. wtf?! and, thinking back, im 99% sure it was coming from the front of the truck.

for reference, i had a local ford dealership, run by pinheads, last night take a look at my brakes, and they said that the pads i had on there were aftermarket pads and they had a lot of anti-brake squeel spray on them. i dont really know about brakes, so i couldnt say if they were BSing me or not (though, im sure they were. i dont think that anti-squeek spray goes on and stays on for that long - my brakes havent been touched in at least 6 months, nor does it really "accumulate" under there, does it?)

im not terribly worried about it, since it didnt do for the second half of my drive this morning, and it didnt do it on my ride home, but just out of curiousity, anyone have any ideas? im hoping that it doesnt start doing it again tomorrow or in a few days.

TIA.

could be brakes... that anti squeak brake stuff lasts a long time... and after awhile it breaks down and cuases squeak.... the raybestos red pads are very prone to squeaking as well, i know this from many we have come back at work... i would guess that about half of the squeak... we always try and gringd off the red paint, and have found that this helps out tremdously.....

jim, thats the first thing i thought it was - the brakes, but when i bent down to look, it was, kinda, just a reaction because i had no idea what i was looking at, hehe. i guess i was just hoping to see something obviously wrong.

i dont knwo what kind of brakes i have on there - i had an alignment shop do them last fall (at least the fronts. the rears are really old.) maybe this summer when i get new rears, ill have them throw new pads up front just for the hell of it...piece of mind i guess.

thanks jim.

anyone wanna take a stab?...please? :)
